Institute of Hotel Management takes great pleasure in announcing the National workshop on the theme "Research Methodologies" to be held during 18-21st August, 2004 at the conference facility of IHM, Bhubaneswar. Since the subject of Research has found its rightful place in the B.Sc. Degree curriculum, it is imperative therefore to equip our faculty with a basics orientation in Research Methodologies. The sole objective of this interaction would not only enable faculty at IHMs to conduct research themselves but also to guide students in doing research in the field of Tourism and Hospitality

Workshop Objectives: |

This course is designed primarily for academicians/faculties interested to teach and guide activities in their respective fields. The workshop starts with fundamental concepts of research and tries to equip the participant with the tools of conducting research at undergraduate level. The workshop also make its participants appreciate fundamental research methods for classroom delivery at undergraduate level. The program familiarizes its participants with the latest developments in the field of research. The workshop houses case discussions, group tasks, software familiarity etc. apart from its regular sessions. It is hoped that the participants will be able to inject a research culture in their respective among colleagues and students. |

- Sampling fundamentals and sampling methods
- Information collection through Qualitative and observational methods
- Overview of Experimental Research

- Data collection through questionnaires
- Question Wording, Sequencing & Layout decisions
- Concept of scaling, Attitude measurement scales
- Concepts and measurement of reliability and validity

- Fundamentals of Data analysis
- Data Editing, coding & tabulation
- Methods of qualitative and quantitative data analysis
- Report Preparation & Presentation

- Post workshop (Sight seeing tours will be organized for participants those who are interested to visit the Golden Triangle)
- Input delivery during sessions may have to be reorganized depending upon learning outcomes.

The workshop faculty will consist predominantly of Scholars and professors who have been long associated with Research both at a theory and application level |

Participants will be faculties at all levels, chiefly drawn from IHMs. However course administrators may also participate. |

To ensure close interaction between the course faculty and participants, total number of participants will be limited to 30 |

Rs. 5000.00 per participant
This includes accommodation and hospitality and the workshop fees.
Accommodation will be on a twin sharing basis, check-in being at 12 noon of 17th August and check-out at 12 noon on 21st August 2004. |
